New Legal Matter Enquiry Package
This offer is a two-stage process below and is open to new and returning clients with new matter enquiries. You will need to tell us before we start any work that you are interested in this package.
We offer 100% obligation-free 15-minute telephone appointments upon request for new enquiries at no cost to you. This is so you can speak to a lawyer and understand your legal matter better without fearing a huge legal bill.
We also offer various Pricing Options for our legal fees to provide you with flexibility and the ability to obtain legal services in a manner you can afford and manage.
How it works
There are two preliminary stages to our New Legal Matter Enquiry Package to help you understand where you stand, and two further stages below should you wish to proceed further with your legal matter:
Stage 1
Preliminary Assessment telephone call
This stage allows us to hear your verbal instructions and, if necessary, a summary review of key documents. Depending on whether time allows, we may also review the relevant law if required. This stage allows us to assess your legal matter. For disputes, whether you likely have a case or viable defence, it also allows us to ascertain what the key issues or facts are, what areas of law are likely applicable, and to work out if we are the right fit for each other. Any advice available at this stage will likely be oral. If your matter is complex and cannot be properly assessed now, we will advise you. Our preliminary assessment can usually be done quickly because we have years of legal education, continuing professional development and training, and practical experience.
We believe this is great value for money at no risk or cost to you.
If you don’t wish to proceed past this point, no worries; you’re not out of pocket at all, not a cent. It only costs you a small amount of your time, and this can be done most conveniently by phone, which can be done on the go in your car, on lunch break or on your walk to work.

Stage 2
Assessment and advice
This stage involves a deeper review of your matter and further conference with you as required.
After completing the preliminary assessment, you can ask us to assess your matter in further detail with 45 minutes further time allowed at a special introductory price for review of key documents, your instructions, the law, your likely rights and options, and any necessary further conferences by video, telephone or in person (if necessary). You may participate from your phone wherever you are without inconveniencing you. At this stage, we will provide further oral advice, and occasionally some brief email advice, and an outline of the relevant law, key issues, and facts as we see them, options you have, and what the likely legal costs are for different options if you wish to proceed further.
Total Package includes: An initial 15 minutes of free preliminary assessment + 45 minutes at a special introductory price = 1 hour of legal assistance. The total package is valued at $440 (incl. GST), but you get it for only $195 (plus GST).
If you do not wish to proceed, you have only spent $195 (plus GST). Money well spent to know where you stand legally in your legal matter, or a small price to pay to receive legal advice to help you avoid a bad or risky decision that could cost you much more.

Stage 3
On-Boarding
Here, we provide a formal letter of engagement, our costs agreement and a costs disclosure statement. The engagement letter sets out the agreed scope of work we will do for you, preliminary instructions, and any preliminary advice given by us, the next steps involved, and further work recommended to be undertaken.
If you then wish to proceed, we move to Stage 4…
Stage 4
We commence acting for you under our retainer and move forward with resolving your legal matter as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible with as little interruption and stress caused to your business or personal life at the forefront of our minds.
Why do we offer a special new matter package
We believe in facilitating access to justice. No one should be anxious about contacting a lawyer simply to see if we can help you with your legal matter. We often hear stories from clients about their experiences with other law firms where lawyers have demanded a minimum of $800 or $1,000 just to talk to them. We think this is wrong, we don’t agree with it, and we aren’t afraid to say it. As lawyers, we hold a privileged position of trust and knowledge to help our community, we are not above our community, we are part of it.

Not all matters are suitable for the 15-minute free consultation or the New Legal Matter Enquiry Package, which we may refuse to provide at our sole discretion. Common examples where this package is unsuitable are large or complex matters or where we deem the matter is not the right fit for our business.
